Congrats Minnesota GABF Winners!

The GABF, organized by the Brewers Association, is the largest commercial beer competition in the world. Winning at GABF is a tremendous honor and our local brewers should be proud of their accomplishments. This years’ results honor several first-time winners from our beer scene, which is really awesome. Congrats to all!

Badger Hill Traitor IPA

Traitor-IPA-PintBadger Hill Brewing Co. is rolling out a new IPA and you may just want to try it. Traitor IPA is a year-round offering. Badger Hill’s new Head Brewer Michael Koppleman has been pounding away at this beer for two years, tasting and tweaking to get it where it is today. “This is the beer I’ve been vectoring towards my whole life and I love it.”

The brewery describes this beer as “part West Coast IPA, part not.” Curious? You’ll find it in draft now and in 12 oz. bottles in early May.  While definitely a hop forward beer, Traitor IPA will be consistent with Badger Hills mission to brew approachable, balanced beers – as balanced as a 70 IBU IPA can be. Traitor IPA uses four hop varieties (Citra, Centennial, Cascade & Galaxy) for flavor and aroma and British ale yeast helps for a smooth, dry finish.

Beer Dabbler Bullpen at the Saints’ Stadium

beerdabblerThe Beer Dabbler and The St. Paul Saints are pairing up to bring 21 craft beers to the ballpark this year. The area, dubbed The Beer Dabbler Bullpen, will be located in the left field corner and will feature seven different breweries, a 70 foot custom bar and a retail space. This outdoor craft beer area will debut at the Saints’ May 11 exhibition game against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

In addition to other beers, Badger Hill plans to launch a limited release White IPA at the Bullpen. You’ll also be able to find beers from Alaskan, Fulton, Goose Island, Lift Bridge, Odell and Third Street.

“Beer and baseball are the perfect combination at the ballpark,” said Scott Bush, assistant general manager, St. Paul Saints. “Our goal is to enhance the Saints experience and this partnership with the Beer Dabbler will allow our fans to choose from a wide variety of tasty craft beers.  A ‘call to the Bullpen’ will definitely have a different meaning this year.”

“We are excited to bring fans even more tasty reasons to come to a ballgame this year,” said Joseph Alton, project director at the Beer Dabbler. “What pairs better than beer and baseball? The Saint Paul Saints are an outdoor summer institution in Minnesota and now you’ll be hard pressed to find a better draught list at another sporting event this summer.”

Badger Hill Takes the “High Road” with a New Session Ale

badger hill high roadIs the session beer the new sour beer which was the new IPA? If that makes no sense to you, fear not, I sometimes just make sh…tuff up. In any case, our friends at Badger Hill have launched their fourth beer, High Road Everyday Ale! which is their take on a sessionable ale. Brewed with Galaxy and Wakatu hops, High Road “swirls with the aromas of tropical fruit and notes of citrus.” Badger Hill says it’s not a blonde ale or a pale ale per se, though they say you’ll find a clean, dry flavor with just a hint of sweetness.

High Road Everyday ale is available on draught across the metro area. Make sure to ask for it the next time your are out! 12oz bottles will be available at the end of April/Early May.
