The fan-submitted Surly commercial was written up on MNSpeak.com the other day.
Not the kindest words ever, but who cares? I enjoyed it for what it was and give Trav credit for his work.

Most of the people posting on mnspeak are a bunch of idiots anyway. Looked like a couple of guys goofing around making a video.
I think it has to do with framing. If they said it was “a video,” people would watch it and if they liked it would pass it around. No big deal. Being they frame it as a “commercial,” there’s a expectation that people are going to see something better than a homemade video with shoddy editing, no lighting and amateur acting shot with a cheap camera.
The video is what it is, and that’s cool. They shouldn’t frame it as a “commercial” spot though.
damn, why are those harsh responses necessary? “crap” “horseshit”…anonymous blog posters are awfully liberal with their vitriol.

Hmmm, not the kindest folks over there. For the record, I do video production as a job, but obviously commercials arent my strong point. It was fun to make and me and the dancing man Shane had a good time making it. For the record though, I didnt use a crappy camera and the editing really isnt that shoddy. The acting does suck though, and as one dude on mnspeak so kindly said “i have some really big teeth”
Screw ’em. You guys had fun, the piece was funny and that’s about all that counts. Like Al said, anonymous posters dish out the hate fairly easily while hiding behind their computer.
Certainly not nice people there. Sometimes it seems like it’s kind of a mecca for local internet trolls, or at least the mildly misanthropic.
uh yeah generally the wizards on anonymous blogs talk alot of shit. which is on course since thats what most of them are, shit! anyways. yeah trav does videoography for a business. He does outstanding work with top of the line equip. Naturally the bloggers are all video wizards i guess. We like surly beers and wanted to make a spot for fun. and had fun doing it. AND YES, i am the dancin man, and like omar said NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!:) so yeah we got a few more scripts so maybe well get bored and make another piece of shit for the fellas at mnspeak!
