Ian from The Four Firkins is hosting a free educational tasting tonight centered around Farmhouse Ales at 7pm tonight. Definitely worth checking out!
If you have wanted to learn more about beer styles and history, come join us for the second in our series of educational tastings. Many craft beer drinkers come to enjoy Belgian beers, not only for their diverse and complex flavors and aromas, but for their rich, and often romantic history. As we enter the dog days of summer, it is the perfect time to focus on Belgian and French farmhouse ales which were often used as refreshment for farmhands. You will be guided through a brief historical and cultural context of these beers, digging into the philosophy of “beer styles”, all while sampling some classic and unique examples.
As if learning about fascinating beers while drinking free samples isn’t enough incentive, we will also be raffling off some glassware, and a copy of Farmhouse Ales by Phil Markowski, an authoritative text on farmhouse ales. In order to be eligible to win, you must enter your name in the drawing by the time the class begins at 7:30 and be present at the end to collect your prize.
Samples include:
From Belgium- Saison Dupont and St. Feuillien ‘Saison’
From France- Brasserie Castelain ‘St. Amand French Country Ale’
From the U.S.- Ommegang ‘Hennepin’, Jolly Pumpkin ‘Bam Biere’, and Two Brothers ‘Domaine DuPage’
