Great Lakes Brewing Hits St. Cloud in September

fitzHey St. Cloud, welcome to the party! Ohio’s Great Lakes Brewing Company is coming your way starting September 9th under the wings of  distributor Bernick’s Beverages & Vending. GLBC is currently in both Duluth and the Twin Cities and the company plans to roll out throughout Minnesota in due time.

Expect to see Great Lakes’ regular beers in bottles and on draft as well as their 12-pack sampler. Drink enough and the possibilities are endless! (I went to SCSU. I know that some of you people can drink. There’s a reason that there aren’t many classes on Fridays at the school… or so I hear.)  As we get closer to launch date, look for a variety of events, meet-and-greets, tastings and giveaways throughout the area.

North Coast Nosh VII

Dubbed as “The Best Foodie Event in 2012” by Minnesota Monthly, The Heavy Table’s North Coast Nosh has become just that, featuring awesome breweries, cheesemakers, coffee roaster and more. Look for familiar local breweries such as Badger Hill, Fulton, Lucid, Indeed, Summit and other fine purveyors like Caves of Fairbault, Cookie Cart, Singing Hills Goat Dairy, St. Croix Chocolate Co. and more. Tickets and further details at heavytable.com. Not to be missed!

Thursday, February 7th, Peace Coffee Roastery, 5:30-8:30pm, $26.90

BBS, Uber & Free Rides

Rob from Better Beer Society shot us a line to let us know that BBS is partnering with Uber, a new “on-demand” car service that just launched in the Twin Cities. Rob says he’s used it twice now, and that it’s “pretty badass and might change the way you look at calling a cab.” Users can request a car via their smartphone or text, which seems rather handy while under the influence of one too many barleywines… They usually arrive in under 5 minutes, and no money exchanges hands.

BBS & Uber are offering MNBeer geeks a free ride. Perhaps this could come in handy with Winterfest this weekend? Just download the app on your smartphone, and use the code “BBSMSP” which is good for a $20 ride anywhere in the city. (www.uber.com)

Limited Release Beer

Have you checked out the web show, Limited Release? It’s a web series put together by a couple of Minnesotans (with some ex-pat help) dedicated to “the hunt for great rare beers and the events surrounding their release. Thus far, they have episodes on Three Floyds’ Dark Lord Day as well as  a Kate the Great event at Portsmouth Brewery with Surly Darkness Day in the works. Definitely worth checking out!
