Brewing TV is getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day with stout on the brain! For the occasion, Jake and Mike brew two beers. One is a Dry Irish Stout on par with the modern Guinness Draught, which we serve on nitrogen through a stout faucet. The other beer is a Single Stout Porter, based on a beer Guinness produced back in the 1880s. Max Sparber over at MinnPost has a nice piece on the Hamm’s bear, Schmaltz Hero: The Story of the Hamm’s Beer Bear. At my first “real” job, I worked with a guy who had a hand in creating the bear back in the day. And although I’m not sure whether the commercials continued into the 70s and 80s I remember that bear quite well.
