Here’s a fun little video with Eric and Gabe from Summit Brewing and some Hop Silo. Enjoy.
Mark your calendars for April… today Summit announced a new year-round certified organic ale, Hopvale Organic Ale. They’re referring to it as a hoppy sessionable ale (4.7% abv) breed with organic malts, hops and lemon peel. They have my attention! According to Summit, this will be their first year-round beer available exclusively in four-pack 16 oz. cans and on draft.
Summit’s last venture into organic ale cane via brewer Gabe Smoley’s Unchained 12: 100% Organic Ale back in 2013.
More details forthcoming!
Summit’s Unchained Series has really been something I’ve looked forward to over the course of the past several years. This round marks a few firsts for the brewery – this will be the first Unchained offering in cans (i.e. 16 oz. silos… get it?). It will also be Summit’s first foray into the world of double IPAs. Summit suggests that this one will have strong hop characteristics with a punch of citrus, herbal and pine notes. At 101 IBUs, this beer goes to eleven! Check it out.
Malts: Crisp Best Pale Malt, Simpson’s Premium Englis Caramel Malt, Simpson’s Crystal Dark
Hops: Zeus, Azacca, Apollo, Lemondrop, CascadeIBU: 101

The latest beer in Summit’s Union Series will be called 3X Mild. This is brewer Damian McConn’s take on the Mild ales of 19th century England, brewed with a new American base malt, an experimental hop variety and a traditional English yeast. Summit refers to this beer as “a rich, malt-driven and full-bodied beer with notes of stone fruit, molasses, toffee, toast and a hint of chocolate. And if you can believe it, the chocolate notes come from the hops. Great Fermentations refers to the hop with this description: “Cocoa, tropical, stone fruit, Jolly Rancher (oh yeah), passion fruit, and carmel.” Expect this beer sometime in mid-to-late November.
