Thomas Liquors Tasting

Nice event coming up, sponsored by Thomas Liquors in St. Paul, to benefit St. Thomas More School (IHM-St. Luke’s). Sure, it says “jazz and wine,” but I got the inside scoop on some beer reps who will be pouring….

Jazz and Wine Benefit

Friday, February 1, 2008, at 340 Summit Ave

Limited to the first 375 people–Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

We are selling tickets at Thomas Liquors

The beer guys that will be there are:

  • Brad the Beer Guy from Chisago Lakes Distributing
  • Jason Gillum from Bell’s Brewing
  • Mike from Alcorn Distributing (Dark Horse, Tyranena, etc…)

They will all be pouring 5 – 7 beers as well as some special treats

There will be apps as well as 12 wine people sampling over 100 wines from all over the world.

Let me know if you have any other questions,
Dan

Thomas Liquors Update

In addition to the Tyranena tasting that Kris posted (January 18, 4pm – 6pm, at Thomas Liquors in St. Paul), Fitty alerted me to a bunch of new stuff they got in this week.

We just got a ton of HopSlam about an hour ago… and the price did NOT increase, $13.99.  I also got a lot more new and old stuff that you’ll have to check out.  eg. more Black Hole, Haand Dark Force, Orkney Reserve, Brasserie Dupont Avec les Bons Voeux and others.  Hope to see you soon!
Cheers,
Fitty

HopSlam on it’s way

Ok, another non-Minnesota blurb. Bell’s HopSlam is once again headed our way, but in a more limited fashion than last year. Bill over at Princeton Liquor’s sent me a rather long email explaining the situation.

Hey all beer folk,
Just in case your wondering what that loud screech was on January 1st, it was the holiday business bus coming to a screeching stop. After a wicked 3 weeks of crazy business, we slow down considerably here at the store. Now does that mean I stop ordering great beer? Most certainly not. In fact the reason the outline of this email looks like paradise is the beer that will be coming in soon, will remind you all of paradise. Yes thats right HopSlam is on its way to our beautiful state. Now potentially I will be getting my shipment this week. Potentially. I have another source who says it may not reach us by late next week.

Cellars Tasting

Ran across this on BeerAdvocate…

Big Beer Tasting @ Cellars

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

This week’s theme: Big Beers for the Winter!

Well the vote was in and the winner was big beers. This week no one beer will weigh in under 10%, and all of them will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Rumor has it a homicidal penguin might just fall into a hole void of color in a Kentucky whisky county, and then go on an expedition with a blonde Austrian Santa Claus to kill the angel of death. All right, the first one to tell me the six beers we are sampling after 6:45PM on Wednesday will be rewarded accordingly.

So come on in and bring some friends, because drinking good beer is much better in the company of good people!

Thomas Liquors Cellar List

Thomas Liquors, one of my favorite St. Paul beer haunts, has begun cellaring (is that a word?) some of their beers. Take a look here to see what they have to offer– Samiclaus 3L 2007, Aventinus 2002, Bigfoot 2006, Utopias 2007, Scaldis Prestige, yum!

While clearly a work in progress–as any good cellar is–it’s a great start and will only improve with time. Their beer guy Fitty is a dedicated salesman, and always willing to take a few minutes to discuss the intricacies of, well, beer. Also, be sure to check out their latest edition of The Crush for some good gift ideas for that beer geek on your list.
