It’s Friday and that means…free beer!  Fave St. Paul beer haunts the Ale Jail and Thomas Liquors are hosting tastings this afternoon at 4pm.

Thomas welcomes new Goose Island rep. Jon Landers (aka John Bierman) to the store to pour some G.I. on the bar today. Belgian styles galore!

Afterward, head on over to the Ale Jail and meet Arnello Mollica, owner of Central Waters Brewing Co, and taste his many delicious beers including the last of the wonderful double IPA, Illumination.

Brooklyn Tasting/Signing at Heritage Monday

Look left, look right…  yeah. Right there. See the Event list. Yeah. In any case, we’ve mentioned that this week marks the rollout of Brooklyn in our market before. Follow the link and if it’s your style (as it seems to be for some folks) hop on the Brooklyn train. There’s many-a-stops and Frank wanted us to remind us that you shouldn’t miss a visit with Steve Hindy from Brooklyn at Heritage on Monday. Read on… or just show up… 7pm at Heritage.

Before starting up Brooklyn Brewery, President and Co-founder Steve Hindy was a journalist, serving as a Beirut based Middle East Correspondent for the Associated Press. While back in the states watching the Mets 1986 championship season unfold and brewing his own beer, he convinced his downstairs neighbor Tom Potter that they should quit their jobs and start a brewery. No one has done more to promote beer and its food pairing possibilities and that passion keeps Brooklyn on the leading edge of the craft beer revolution. Today, they are a top 40 brewery in the US and also ship to Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Hong Kong, Japan and Great Britain.

We’re excited to welcome Brooklyn Brewery to Minnesota and have the one and only Steve Hindy himself in store on Monday April 4th at 7PM. We’ll have samples of all the brews they are bringing into the state, including their IPA, Brown Ale, Lager, Summer Ale, Pennant Ale and Local 1 & 2. Steve will also be signing copies of his book, Beer School, about his experiences starting a brewery from scratch, and the first 20 people who can read will receive a free autographed copy.

Beer School In Session

This seems pretty awesome. Is credit available? More deets as they roll in.

Brought to you by Pat Fahey and Adam Schulte with support from our partners, The Happy Gnome and The Ale Jail.

Classes start May 4th, and will be held every Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30pm at the Happy Gnome, through July 20th. May schedule coming soon!

We’ll be bringing in a different brewery each week to sample out 4-5 of their beers. Learn a little, drink a little, oh, and did we mention it’s FREE?

Olvalde Tastings: Ale Jail & Four Firkins

For the first time in the Twin Cities, Olvalde Farmhouse Ales, MN’s newest (real!) brewery will be tasting The Auroch’s Horn, a strong Belgian style golden ale TODAY at the Ale Jail from 4-6pm. Stop in and support another local brewery! Adam asks “Did I mention it’s brewed with honey, 10% ABV and delicious?” Only one way to find out. Head over today.

And if Friday doesn’t work for you, The Four Firkins will be hosting an event with Joe from Olvalde Farmhouse Ales as well. from 6-8pm Saturday.

Joe does just about all the work for the brewery including hand bottling, corking and caging his 750ml bottles.

“The Auroch’s Horn is a nod to the Belgian Strong Golden style. Joe uses an American yeast strain along with honey to create a 10% ABV golden ale refermented in the bottle with hints of lemon, pear, peach and honeysuckle. Complimenting these flavors throughout is a light honey essence.”
