Welch Village Bakkelyka Brew Music & Craft Beer Festival

Bakka15thSome of you know that I spend my daylight hours working in the world of outdoor sports. Needless to say, I’m always happy when the ourdoors and craft beer cross paths. Here’s yet another instance – our friends at Welch Village are throwing their first annual Bakkelyka Brew Music and Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, October 3rd from 2pm until 9pm. Tickets are $20 online until Sept. 15th and $30 at the gate.

Welch Village promises plenty of craft beer as well as food and music from Travis & Drew, Lisa Wegner & Her Mean Mean Men, Vintage Raggs and Tim Mahoney. Head on down for some beer and dream about the upcoming ski season!

Surly Rhubarb Farmhouse Ale at Chipotle Cultivate Festival Saturday

No doubt you’ve heard that Chipotle’s Cultivate Festival is returning to Loring Park on Saturday. And once again, they’ve teamed up with our friends from Surly Brewing Company to brew an exclusive seasonal offering for the event.

In addition to celebrating all things good (i.e. food, music, beer and ideas), the event will include the “Cultivate Farmnouse Ale,” a Saison brewed with Minnesota barley and rhubarb. If you’d like to try it, we suggest you hit up the Cultivate festival on Saturday between 11am and 7pm. Otherwise you’ll be out of luck.

“For festival goers, Cultivate celebrates great local artisans in both food and drink. The talents of Head Brewer Todd Haug and his team at Surly perfectly exemplify that for the great city of Minneapolis,” said Scott Robinson, manager of national events for Chipotle. “The Farmhouse Ale was so well received last year that we tapped Todd’s team to create another unique beer that appeals to craft beer fans and highlights the great ingredients of Minneapolis.”

This year’s beer includes traditional Belgian malts, Slovenian hops, Minnesota rhubarb and barley grown and malted in Minnesota. We’re told to expect spicy clove notes thanks to the yeast and a rounded malt backbone to offset the tartness of the rhubarb. Wanna’ try it? You’ll be able to grab this beer as well as other great craft beers and wines from nearly a dozen local breweries and wineries in the Tasting Hall.

Autumn Brew Review Tickets

It's okay to tell a brewer that you don't care for his Oktoberfest, but please don't be a jerk (or hit people with growlers).

…go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon. Now in its 15th year, Autumn Brew Review is one of Minnesota’s oldest and largest craft beer festivals. Tickets are $45 and with any luck, you can purchase them online here: http://www.tempotickets.com/abr.

The Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild-sponsored festival is one of my very favorite festivals and if past history is any indicator, you’ll want to be on your computer right at noon for a chance to grab tickets as everyone else seems to like it as well.

ABR runs from 1-5pm Saturday, September 19th at the Historic Grain Belt Brewery in Northeast Minneapolis and will feature more beer than you can possibly drink from more than 120 participating breweries. If that’s not enough for you, there will be live music, food vendors, beer education and more.

Now in its 4th year, All Pints North returns to Bayfront Festival Park in Duluth with a huge array of craft beer, samples, education, live music and other fun.

Quite frankly, this is one of my very favorite festivals. Many years ago the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild created beer festivals that set the bar high for all other local festivals and All Pints North is no exception. You really can’t go wrong – the self-professed “Beer Capital of Minnesota” is indeed a great place to sip a beer sample or thirty while gazing at Lake Superior and watching as freighters pass.

I suggest you make a weekend of it. Duluth is beautiful… and ready for you. Hotels aren’t exactly cheap this time of the year, but I promise you’ll have a good time. Sadly I can’t make it this year.

Tickets are $40 in advanced and $50 day-of assuming they’re still available.
