Brewing TV #54: Jake’s Got a Brand New Bag

Here’s one for the homebrewers trapped somewhere between extract and all-grain homebrewing. Brewing TV goes deep undercover on some BIAB action! After reading so much about how easy and fun it can be, Jake Keeler decides to give the “Brew In A Bag” method a try. To put it bluntly – he’s hooked! Join us for a brew session and discussion about the pros and cons to see if brewing-in-a-bag is right for your homebrewery.

Brewing TV #53: Lager Workarounds

Brewing TV is in serious homebrew mode for the next three episodes of the show starting with this one on “Lager Workarounds.”

‘Tis the season for brewing and fermenting lagers. But what if you don’t have the set-up for true lagering process (fermenting fridge, near-freezing basement, etc.)? Brewing TV says “Fake the funk!” In this episode, Dawson and our cohort Don Osborn brew up three beers. They use some yeast strain and temperature workarounds to make them into great non-lagers.

Brewing TV is planning some cool roadtrips for 2012 including Colorado next month, Dogfish Head later this spring, and the National Homebrewers Conference (and likely some pro brewers, too) in Seattle this summer. Keep an eye out for upcoming episodes from those trips! All for brew, brew for all!

Better Beer Society Brown Bag Blind Tasting #1 at Stub & Herb’s

This is the first in a series of blind tasting events all designed to challenge and educate your palate. Better Beer Society aims to get you thinking and talking about the aromas and flavors that you are experiencing, as well as get rid of any preconceptions one may have about certain beer styles.

The theme for this first event will be showcasing the main ingredients of beer. (water, malt, yeast, and hops)

It will begin with a beer brunch at Stub & Herbs starting at 11am, which will be paired with a few selected (sample size) beers chosen to compliment the food. Immediately following, they will begin with the (4) sessions.

They will have hand selected 27 special taps for this event. You won’t want to miss these!

All guests will be given notepads and encouraged to take notes, and fill in their guess as to what they think each beer is.

At the end of the day they will do the big reveal, unveiling each brown bag one at a time. The winner with the most correct answers will get a very special prize package!

The $25 ticket price includes: Beer brunch and 13 (3oz.) beers.) Additional samples and small plates available for purchase at bar.
