Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Two New Breweries Go Live: Welcome Pryes Brewing Co. and Fair State Brewing Co-op

newbiesOver the course of the last week or so, two new breweries have launched product for the general public. Fair State delivered their first beer, a hefeweizen, to Grumpy’s NE last Monday. Their taproom is also open for business, though hours are a bit sporadic during their soft opening.

And because one new brewery isn’t enough, Pryes Brewing Co. launched into the market with an IPA, Miraculum, currently available at Burch Steak House, Butcher and The Boar, Libertine, HeyDay and Village Pub.

Congrats everyone! We’re looking for good things from both breweries!

Junkyard Brewery Taproom Kickstarter – Final Days

Confession: I have a soft spot in my heart for the Fargo-Moorhead area in my heart. As a kid, my parents transplanted us to lakes country – Fergus Falls, more specifically. The FM area was “the big city” in our area, and I cut my teeth in those two cities… checking out bands, girls, college and my first sips of craft beer. So when I saw the the fine fellas’ from Junkyard Brewery were running a Kickstarter project to help with their new brewery, I thought I’d pitch in. If you’re someone who’s willing to throw some cash at a Kickstarter project and someone who supports Minnesota-made beer, check this out.

As I write this, they have 6 days left to raise about $1700. If it’s your sort of thing, how about extending a little “Minnesota Nice” to Moorhead?

Brau Brothers Hopfest!

Brau Brothers Brewing Company will play host to their 1st Annual Hopfest this weekend, September 5-7.

Each day music will be played on a stage set up outside the brewery in the parking lot, tours will be offered, the kitchen will have specials on food,  and beer, including a special release of Test Positive Ale*, will be drunk.  There’s something for everyone with Country, Bluegrass, Rock, and Polka! Bring your sunscreen, and be ready to party!

*Test Positive spent several months in used, buggy, whiskey barrels. Fermented on Saccharomyces initially, then aged on lacto + pedio and finally finished with brett, this one serves up some flavor! A bit of chocolate, vanilla, dark cherry/plum, green apple tart, a little funk, and finally a hint of smoke from the barrel. This one is darker in flavor than the Bancreagie Sour (which we will also try to bottle for the weekend). Test Positive will do well with the stinkiest of cheeses! We saved our favorite barrel for barrel pours Friday, Saturday, and (If there’s any left) Sunday
