If It Ain’t On Your Beerdar, It Should Be = Fat Lorenzo’s

I FINALLY stopped by Fat Lorenzo’s for dinner this evening after years of driving by and saying, “Hmm, I should check it out.”  I was surprised and pleased to see they have a very respectable beer menu.  They aren’t loaded with MN craft beers, but their overall craft selection is pretty good.  Here are the highlights (not complete, ignores imports, etc.).

Summit EPA

Bell’s (2 Hearted, 3rd Coast, Pale, Oberon)

Furthermore Fatty Boombalatty

Brau Bros Sheep Head

Rush River Small Axe Golden Pale

Two Brothers Ebel’s Weiss

New Holland Dragon’s Milk

Southern Tier Imperial Iniquity

Goose Island Matilda

New Belgium (Mothership Wit, Fat Tire)

Oh yeah, and all the beers are priced at $3.50 except for the Goose Island ($4.00) and the Southern Tier ($8.00).  The Dragon’s Milk might have been more than $3.50 also.  And they have gelato!!!

You can find Fat Lorenzo’s at the southern edge of Lake Nokomis in Mpls (Cedar Ave. and Edgewater Blvd.)

BrauFest 2009

From the Lucanites at Brau Bros:

It’s Official, BrauFest 2009 will take place June 5th and 6th right here in Lucan!

We will offer on-site camping right at the brewery for the weekend!  In order to keep the weekend safe and fun, we’ll have spots to park your tent or camper.  Please RSVP so that we can plan accordingly.  We look forward to having you as our guests.  We encourage homebrewers to bring their best to share on Friday night around the campfires.  Of course we’ll offer kegs and casks of Brau Beer, including the local favorite, Old 56.  Brewery tours and hopyard tours will be available.  The hops are up, the brewery pond is being dug, and barley looks great; we can’t wait to show them off!

On Saturday night, a terrific local band, Hicktown Mafia will play a free street dance about a block from the brewery.  The BrauHaus (the birthplace of Brau Beer) will be serving pints and awesome food.

We also can’t wait to show off Lucan’s newest addition.  The Lucan Locker has reopened in sweet new digs, only a stumble from the brewery.  Karen will be open Saturday with specials and samples.  I can personally attest to the quality; you can only get this kind of meat in a small town locker.  If you have a mixed couples slow pitch team, entry into the weekend’s tourney is a mighty $30.  Brau Brothers will sponsor any team that participates from over 50 miles away based on this blast.  Our local Lions Organization keeps a beer wagon (stocked with Brau Beer) next to the ball field.  This is a great event celebrating the traditions and history of small town brewing.  We look forward to seeing you here in Lucan, and we especially encourage those outside the greater Lucan metropolitan area to join us for the weekend.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me or call the brewery.  As always, there will be plenty of free parking in Lucan. Take care,  Dustin Brau Brewer, CEO

Surly on Kare 11

Kare 11‘s Boyd Huppert was at Surly Brewing this past Friday night during a facility tour filming footage for a story he’s working on.  Preliminary word is that this story will air on Thursday, May 14, but I imagine that is subject to change.  Keep it on your radar screen.  I tried to get my ugly mug in every shot I could.  Hi mom!  What a dolt.
