Kris from Pour Decisions Brewing Co. dropped me a line today regarding a snag they’ve run into in their attempt to get a growler law passed in Roseville so that they can sell growlers of their beer at the brewery. A local liquor store sent a letter against the proposed change, suggesting that it would take away from their business. PDBC’s research says otherwise, suggesting that new breweries bring new beer geeks into areas that they normally wouldn’t go. Take a second and answer the poll question on their Facebook page and weigh in. As they’ve said “This isn’t just about PDBC its about beer in Roseville so send your friends over for their opinions!”
Also, if you are around Roseville on Monday at 7pm please feel free to come down to the city hall and support PDBC. Anyone is able to speak and they’d love to have you help out!
That seems a bit odd that its a growler law issue, since Granite City is selling growlers in Roseville.
Maybe cuz GC is a brewpub not a brewery?
It also seems weird that GC is supposed to be selling bottles in stores soon.
GC can sell package because the beer is being brewed in Iowa at another facility. Different state, different laws. But they can’t sell their bottles at the brewpub.
Gc bottles in stores already. It’s brewed and bottled by minhas just has a GC label. Only way for it to happen w/ current laws
I hope this snag doesn’t delay those beers — they certainly sound interesting.

Didja try the Minhas/GC bottles yet? I saw ’em but didn’t spring for ’em on account of the backlog of winter seasonals I need to polish off first : )
I really need to make it back to the Midwest. You all have such a great community in the brewing business. Debates like these make me jealous!
If you’re near a GC, I recommend just getting a growler filled on the cheap days. The bottles that I’ve sampled didn’t do anything for me.
Michael is correct. GC is an entirely different animal.
We started with the city council directly making sure its something they would be open to before we decided to sign a lease in Roseville. It wasn’t until this last Tues when the letter was sent in that we found any sort of anti-growler sentiment.
We started a simple poll on our FB page on Friday (if you haven’t voted, please do!) to show not just the city council the support for the area but also the liquor store that wrote the letter how much new blood we will bring them. The liquor store has a really really good selection of beer (and Scotch!) so its a uniquely synergistic relationship in our mind. Pop by PDBC for a growler, stop at the liquor store for a few great Minnesota beers and then head over to a local restaurant (Grumpys = more awesome beer and food)! All of this is within 6 minutes walk (I do walk fast though).

I am a big fan of that store and I go there every time I am in the Neighborhood (Grumpy’s and Byerly’s mostly), PDBC would give me another reason to be in the area. These are those little things that make me slowly quit going to a place.
It’s hard to tell what the reason for the letter was originally. Cellars ended up no showing for the meeting last night. Our growler law passed and we will still frequent Cellars. It was great the support we got last night! Thanks everyone!!!
