Mikkeller. Heritage. Tonight. Drink up, buttercup!
We’ve all seen the staggering array of Mikkeller beers on store shelves, but how many of them do we ever get to try? Well, now is your chance to see why these beers are at all the top beer stores and worth every penny you pay. We’ll be pouring samples of Beer Hop Breakfast, 10, Hoppy Easter and Chipotle Porter, all of these will also be 10% off during the tasting.
Mikkeller was started by two young Denmark home brewers, who in a few years went from hobby brewing at home in the kitchen to national and international recognition. Since August 2007 Mikkel Borg Bjergsø has run Mikkeller on his own and is a gipsy-brewer, brewing at different breweries in Denmark, around Europe and the United States. Their success is partly due to their focus on creating challenging beers that test boundaries and partly putting quality before quantity. In other words, uncompromising beer.
Our Thursday night tastings run from 5-7PM.
This is a pretty good idea. Mikkeller beers are kinda spendy and I think this may prevent some folks from giving them a try. Also, given that their beers tend to be “out there” a bit, I think folks may shy away.
How’s that for a Capt. Obvious comment!
The one Mikkeller I had tasted like average homebrew and didn’t inspire me to want to shell out the cash for these overpriced stunt beers.
Yeah, I tend to agree with you. I’ve had a few of their beers, a few of which I’ve enjoyed and a few I thought were meh. But the value proposition at the prices we see them doesn’t usually work for me to buy the same one again. That being said, I’m always a sucker for trying something new. To each their own, I guess.
“Stunt beers” is the best beer-related phrase I’ve heard in a while!
I found Beer Geek Breakfast to be pretty darn delicious. But, I do agree, the price point is a bit steep for most of Mikkeller’s brews.
So, if these are “stunt beers,” how do we tell when a brewery has jumped the shark?
I eagerly await the Mikkeller/BrewDog “Jump the Shark!” collaboration : )
P.S. Mag and BeerFan agree on something? I’m marking the date!
