Pillage the Village

Summit is sponsoring a pub crawl through Stadium Village on Friday, Sept. 17. Five bars have teamed up to do the crawl and will all feature $2 Summit drafts all day. The only catch is you have to buy a souvenir Summit mug for $1 to get the deal. Participating bars are Stub & Herb’s, Campus Pizza, Sally’s, Big Ten and Applebee’s. Stub’s is planning on having at least 5 Summits to choose from and will have a cask of the Belgian Golden (the cask will not be included on the $2 special unfortunately).

    Says they’re 14oz pours.

    I’ll be at Applebees.

Seeing that 99% of ‘pints’ you get poured around Minneapolis are already 14oz, seems like a deal!

Kristen: That’s why I have one of these. http://www.thebeergauge.com

Ben: If I saw one of those come out while I was tending bar, especially on a busy night, you would quickly find yourself with extremely slow or no service at all.

mike: 1) Shorting someone on a pint is an accident. Being an asshole when it’s pointed out is something completely different. 2) Any bartender worth his/her salt wouldn’t serve a shitty pint in the first place, busy or not. Take some pride, man.

Beer gauge sounds like a perfect litmus test to find out which bartenders are assholes.

mike: So you’re saying that you have no problems shorting people on what they paid for?

The problem is that American ‘pint’ glasses, aka Mixer glasses, are 16oz to the very tip top. I’m more than happy getting a 14oz pour. Its when it dips lower than that I have a problem.

Mike does bring up a very good point. I have a gauge also. There are times when to use it and when not to use it. If its massively busy and you are geting good service and the pint is pretty much right, don’t play that card b/c you will get crap service. If its slow and the place is notorious for pouring crappy pints, use it. I find I rarely send pints back for a redo.

This only changes when people pour cask beer through a bloody sparkler or when people are pouring Guinness.
