A question about old (really old!) Twin Cities bars…

A reader, Mozena wants some information, and we don’t have the answer, perhaps you do?

Fill me in…I am trying to find out of there is a bar in the Twin Cities (still, and continously) operational that precedes prohibition!? I know Palmer’s Bar on Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis is celebrating a 100 year anniversary this year and I was just wondering how it ranks among the other old bars in the region. Thanks.

Glueks on 6th in Downtown Minneapolis.

The Joynt in Eau Claire, WI (It’s outside the cities I realize, but might be worth a trip. Hell, Duke Ellington played there)

There are a lot of pub that try and look older (kierans and the local for example) but A bar in continous use for that long is a rare find.

I don’t know, but what about the bar at St. Anthony Main?

Neumans, in North St. Paul clains to be the oldest bar with the oldest bar fixtures in Minnesota. It does have a beautiful backbar and is a great bar overall. Well worth a stop if you’re in the NE metro. For what it’s worth, the oldest in Wisconsin, continously operating, legally thru prohibition, is one on Washington Island in Door County. They have a website that explains how they had a loophole in the law for 1919-1933.
