We have 1 keg of Surly Two, an oak aged cranberry stout, that we will be tapping at 5:00 on Wednesday, February 20.

Surly Two is really a like or hate beer. My opinion resides in the latter. I wasn’t very pleased that the Muddy Pig tapped the beer on Saturday, then having our waitress offered it to us and then we were told a few minutes later that we couldn’t have it until Wednesday. I’m not going to bother. Surly Two is really an experience to have once… in my opinion.
A few friends and I got a sample, about 2-3 ounces, at the Gnome.
That was enough for all 4 of us and saved us from ordering a full pint.
Not a very good beer.
There really doesn’t seem to be much latitude between love and hate on this one… I’ve heard both sentiments but not many “it was okay” sort of remarks.
I like it, but I’m a little crazy about cranberry.
I like cranberry too, but didn’t think the roasted barley and oakey tannins did tart & acidic cranberry any favors.
Number 2 was right.
I had a full pint at the Gnome–a full pint!–and loved every $7 worth of it.
Ouch, Gnome prices.
I was surprised to have it served in a pint glass. The couple other places I’ve had it has been about $6 in a 10 oz glass.
this beer, love it or hate it, is currently on tap at the Blue Nile.
It’s not One that’s for sure but if there’s any left of it at the Blue Nile once I return from the craft beer wasteland of the South I’ll be trying to get me a pint.
