This coming Wednesday The Muddy Pig will be tapping their 700th beer. Hard to believe 700 different draft beers have been served at The Pig over the last 8 years. And so what do they have in store? How about a keg of Bell’s Batch 9000, a 12.5% imperial stout? And what’s 701? How about some dueling stouts to mark the occasion? Yup, they’ll put their lone keg of Surly Darkness at the same time.
Lots of questions, but they have the answers. Mark it down.
Correct me if I’m wrong but, Bell’s 9000 is not a stout…
The latest in Bell’s series of milestone releases, Batch 9000 Ale offers up aromas ranging from the sweet caramel & molasses of dark rum to fruits such as raisins and plums. Brewed with the idea of pushing boundaries in mind, Batch 9000 Ale is a unique, one-time-only recipe. Well suited for vintage aging, this limited release will continue to develop in flavor & complexity over the years.
I think it’s close enough to a stout, especially since they don’t categorize it at all.
Having tasted the Bell’s 9000, I am certain it is not a stout, nor is it close to being a stout. It is a Strong Ale.

The dueling Stouts per the muddy pig website would be the Leinenkugel’s Big Eddy and the Darkness.
well, you’re the expert!
how about “imperial stout meets strong ale” somewhere in the middle.
