On Saturday, April 4th, 2009, the Superior Jaycees will be hosting the 12th annual Gitchee Gumee Brewfest. Now now, keep down the yelling. I know this isn’t a MN craft beer event in the strictest sense. But c’mon. It’s a stone’s throw from Duluth. Plus many MN breweries attend the event. In 2008 Schell’s, Flat Earth, Gluek, Lake Superior, Mantorville/St. Croix, Rock Bottom, Summit, and Surly…at least according to the site. My actually memory of the 2008 event is, understandably, a bit fuzzy. I seem to recall that not all of these folks were actually there. Whatever. It’s a beer event. What more do you need to know? Tickets can be purchased from several outlets in the Duluth/Superior area, otherwise you need to mail in your request. My wife, I and our friends have not had a problem getting tickets in the past.
We’ve been going for a number of years now and always had a good time. Over the past couple years it’s become more and more of a college drunk fest. Last year there were plenty of people drinking in line before the fest. I saw the first person puking in a garbage can less then 30 minutes in. Todd got a nice present from one guy at his booth about 3-4 years ago. We’re still gonna give it another year or two before giving up on it though. Sad to see places like Fitger’s pull out of this fest.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I’ve seen similar stuff. And yeah, not having Fitger’s there is a big disappointment.
It’s still always plenty of fun and you can just take a taxi over to Fitger’s after the fest for dinner and more brew then off to Duluth dive bars. I don’t get all bent out of shape by general drunkenness at these fests like some do (sadly every beer fest is going to continue to become more attractive to college beer guzzlers as word spreads that they can drink all they want for one small fee). No reason to let them keep you from having fun. I guess the only real complaint is that they have upped ticket sales a bit over the years and now it’s pretty shoulder to shoulder inside. Big problem with people standing right at the booths and not moving after they get their sample. Pretend like you’re a brewery employee and tell them to move outta the way and they usually listen. I ended up getting 6 bottles of Upland lambic from their brewer for free last year. Awesome stuff and great guy. Upside is that this fest has far more college girls then any other I’ve been to around here or WI.
It’s good to know you won’t be offended if I blow chunks on you then, as long as I’m sure to have a few college babes hanging on me. One is easier for me to accomplish than the other, but whatever.
No problem. I’ll bring a spare shirt.
If you want tickets via the mail, you have to have your check with SAFE to them by March 10th. Get it in NOW.
