Excelsior Brewing Co. has announced that Bob DuVernois would be joining their staff as head brewer. Congrats to both! Minnesota craft beer geeks may know Bob (and his beers) through his time at Great Waters in St. Paul and Hops (closed) in Eden Prairie.
Excelsior has primary plans of launching by Memorial Day. More info as it becomes available!
Update: It looks like the date was updated to 5/14. -RA
We all know Pizza Luce has great taps at all their locations to go along with the ‘za, and St. Paul is no exception (disclaimer: it’s a few blocks from my house, so I’m a little partial to the locale).
Well, they’re upping the ante next month and allowing Southern Tier to have as many of their taps as they want. And from the looks of it, that’s most of them! Porter, Pumking, Phin and Matt’s, Mokah, Creme Brulee, HopSun, Gemini, Oak Unearthly, Jahva, and 2XIPA will on tap for your enjoyment!
Not only that, but they’ll be giving away ST swag and they’re working on a legendary local DJ to spin tunes for the event!
This week Thomas Liquor welcomes back LiftBridge Brewing Co. for Fitty’s First Friday. Owner Dan Schwarz and brewer Adam Weiss will be tasting out the newly-returned six pack lineup along with some of the limited releases. This should be one of the best FFFs to date.
Pouring soon @ the Rathskeller
Victory Prima Pils
21st Amendment Bitter American
Schneider Weisse
Schlenkerla Smoked Pils
Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye
Alaskan Black IPA
New Belgian Dig Pale Ale
We received word of this a few weeks ago, but just got confirmation today from a Minnesota Twins source:
While Anheuser-Busch remains the official beer partner of the Minnesota Twins, the Twins have expanded their selection of local craft beers. Brews from Surly, Fulton, Summit, Finnegans, and Schell’s will be available at various locations throughout Target Field.
Celebrate the impending return of spring, rabbits that leave brightly colored eggs around your house/yard or simply the joy that is the return of Surly Bitter Brewer at Valley Tap House in Apple Valley.
You’ve got a little time yet to make your plans to head north and take in all that is the Gitchee Gumee Brewfest in Superior, WI. Tickets range from $25 for general admission to $75 for VIP (which gets you a 3:30 admission as well as a VIP room with pizza and your very own VIP restroom).
Check out Rock Bottom this Thursday for a taste of their Paranoid IPA, “a powerful West-Coast style IPA loaded with Simcoe hops.” Have a free pint and if the floral and citrus grapefruit character tickles your fancy, stick around for a few more.
Sometimes an oops will turn out great and we end up with a new beer such as the Bad Moon Risin’ from Boulder! An accidental addition of dark malts to their Mojo Risin’ Imperial IPA ended up giving them their one-off Double Black India Pale Ale. This Wednesday Ginger Hop will be tapping the last keg in Minnesota (possibly in the country!) of this beer that will never be able to be exactly reproduced again. They’re tapping it at 5pm! Yum!
Dave Engbers, co-founder of Founders, will now be in attendance at The Happy Gnome! The event is being held upstairs in the Firehouse room of and promises to be awesome. Flights of the beers will be served so you can sample each of the offerings. The list hasn’t changed, but in case you need a reminder they will be pouring Breakfast Stout, Imperial Stout, Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Canadian Breakfast Stout, Curmudgeon’s Better Half, Backwoods Bastard, Double Trouble
and maybe something else to make it a nice even number TBD. Wow. April 10th, 5pm.
Yes, the first keg of Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout is going to be tapped at Tilia. Yes, it is going to be awesome. $15 will get you a Canadian Monte Cristo Sandwich – Canadian Bacon, Fried Egg, Swiss Cheese & Orange Fennel Jam and one 6oz pour of the extremely rare CBS. The co-founder of Founders, Dave Engbers will be at the event to as well to answer questions and generally have a grand time. When the beer’s gone, it’s gone and it probably won’t last long.
Free beer for a year? Count me in! Head over to Acadia Cafe Saturday night for their “We Broke the Curse – 4th Anniversary on the West Bank” party for a chance to win free beer for a year. You’ll need to be present to be one of the four lucky people who will each get one free local beer everyday for one year.
Yup, that about sums it up. On Friday, from 4-6 you can sample all three of Boom Island‘s beer (Silvius Pale Ale, Throprock IPA and Hoodoo Dubbel) at France 44 in Minneapolis. Enjoy!
We mentioned Great Waters’ 15th Anniversary in an earlier post, but below you’ll find some specifics on their special five-course, five-cask dinner. The menu, created by Great Waters’ chef Ernesto, has been carefully planned alongside five specially chosen beers by Brewmaster Bob.
Details of the dinner, which takes place at 7pm on Monday, April 2, at Great Waters Brewing Co., are below:
1. Smoked Tomato Capsicum with Great Waters House Ale
Join the Pig & Fiddle tonight when they tap their first firkin! Well, it’s actually a Pin, but it’s still going to be delicious. At 4pm, they will be pouring Rush River’s Batch 1000, a red rye ale. One of the owners and brewers from Rush River will be on site to answer any questions you might have about their beer or the brewery. Cheers!
