Huh? The Ugly Mug? Wha? No, it’s not that coffee house in Farmington… The Ugly Mug is the bar formerly known as Harvey’s. They’ll be closed this week for a remodel and will reopen on Friday as The Ugly Mug. Half price pints from 4-7pm and free Schell’s from 7-9. It’s listed as Schell’s Amber on BA, but last I checked,Schell’s didn’t have a beer with said name.
Mark your calendars for May 1st at 5:00 pm for the release of Flat Earth’s Black Helicopter at The Ugly Mug as well. Black Helicopter is a coffee stout. I’m hoping that Jeff brings some to Arborfest on Friday. Could I be so lucky?
A description of the beer…
Black Helicopter is a coffee oatmeal stout made with locally roasted Columbia coffee beans from Paradise roasters in Ramsey, MN. What makes this coffee beer different you ask? This is the first beer of its kind made with coffee brewed on a Clover machine, which uses a unique mechanism for extracting the subtle and complex flavors of a coffee bean. Don’t miss this chance to taste this one of a kind brew.
I can’t help but think of Kopplin’s when I think of Clover machines. Andrew’s coffee is top notch. I think this beer will be gooooood…

Tours: reservations are now available for for May tours. However, the fine folks at Surly have decided to shake things up a bit… like I mentioned, they’re taking reservations… in fact you’ll need one… and the only way you’ll get one is by making a reservation online… make one here! Secondly, tours will take place on Friday’s from 6-8pm. Sounds like fun!
Tanks: they’re here. Witn any luck, by the time you read this, all six will be in the building. More beer!

I may have mentioned this before, but we want to get this into the event calendar, so here’s another post, friends.
The first two were a lot of fun, so I suspect number three will be just as nice. Reps from Bell’s will be at Stub and Herb’s on Wednesday for a tasting/sampling and answer any questions you might have. Complimentary appetizers and giveaways too. Lots of fun. Five bucks.

On April 17th, Summit Brewing Company will start accepting entries for the first ever Summit Beer Movie Contest. The contest asks Minnesotans to make a short film, 5 minutes or less, that includes a Summit beer product placement. Since the brewery’s start back in 1986, Summit has supported the vibrant creative community of Minnesota through sponsorships and donations. Now is the chance for that creativity to converge with the art of craft beer in the form of a Summit beer movie.
“We want to see the creativity that our beer drinkers have hidden within them. This is not just a call for a beer commercial-we really want to see what people can come up with, whether they be a Summit beer drinker professing their love or a budding filmmaker with a story to tell,” said Mark Stutrud, CEO and founder of Summit Brewing Company. I’ve been in the mood for a good hefe - I had one at The Brewhouse on Sunday, but I’m itching for more. Thankfully, Town Hall came through and will be tapping their hefeweizen on Monday, April 14th.

In order to celebrate Craig’s birthday, Groveland Tap is having a special 40th birthday party on April 18th including $5 forties (PBR, Bud & St. Ides… MNBeer readers’ favorite beers, no doubt
) and more importantly, a firkin of Summit IPA. Tapping is at 5:00. Enjoy!
Edit: One firkin wasn’t enough for a 40th birthday, so they’re adding another… probably something from Bell’s. Drop in and wish GT’s manager Craig a very happy birthday!

Yup. That about sums it up. Wait…
Our Walnut Brown, an all grain version that is medium bodied with a mild hop profile that let’s the malt come forward with a slight coffee flavor.
Sounds tasty! I think I may have to send Dawn over after work some time to pick some up!
We’ll be adding them to the “breweries” page soon. I’m very glad to see these beer in growlers!
