More Cynicism… in can form…

Surly got a nice note in the June issue of Gourmet magazine;
“But the biggest surprise came in the biggest can: The 16-ounce Surly Bender was dark and malty, but with a nice balancing hoppiness. It’s exactly what you would not expect to find in a can in you didn’t know how excellent the vessel is.”

Since Gourmet thinks cans are so great, we decided to can another beer. CynicAle will soon be appearing in cans at your favorite Surly liquor store. CynicAle is being served right now, at Papas Pizza in north Minneapolis.

The CynicAle launch in bars will happen next Tuesday at Grumpy’s – NE Minneapolis. Rumor is that some cask Bitter Brewer might be there too!

The Cynic’s out of the Bag and into the Can…

I’ve known about this one for quite some time, but generally like to sit on “secrets” until I either get the go-ahead or someone else shares… well in no uncertain terms someone else shared over on BeerAdvocate, so here it is: Surly Brewing Co. will be offering their wildly tasty CynicAle in cans this summer. Rumor has it that some bartender at some unknown Ethiopian restaurant in Minneapolis wrote the copy for the cans.

From BA:

A little bird told me that you will, starting tomorrow (or the day after, please call ahead to avoid disappointment), be able to enjoy a very tasty Surly CynicAle in cans at this nice little neighborhood restaurant.

Go to Papa’s website: http://papaspizzaandpasta.com for contact and phone information. In my opinion, you could do a LOT worse than a can of Surly with a Tomato Pie from Papa’s. It’s a once-a-week special for me!

Note that I have no business affiliation with either Papa’s or Surly. Just a fan of both!

Flat Earth Curly Tail Ale

…just think… at the Metrodome you actually have to look around a bit to find a decent beer. This shouldn’t be the case at the Saints’ stadium as Flat Earth’s new beer, Curly Tail Ale, should be conveniently located for your drinking pleasure.

Our new beer, Curly Tail Ale is available only at Midway Stadium, home of the St. Paul Saints. The first kegs arrived at the stadium this afternoon. Curly Tail Ale is an ordinary bitter, don’t be afraid of the word bitter. This beer is slightly sweet and smooth, with a touch of chocolate in the after taste. We used Golden Promise malt, medium and dark crystal malt, chocolate malt and brown sugar. It is hopped with three addition of UK Fuggles. Get out to the ball park and watch some outdoor baseball and grab a pint, available at the third base concession area.

Cheers,

Schell Hospitality Complex Grand Opening

New Museum of Brewing, Gift Shop and Tap Room! Free Tours and Live Music!

Dear Friends of Schell’s Brewery;

After a long and somewhat challenging process, we are proud to say our new Hospitality Complex has been completed!

The Grand Opening of the new facility will be on Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 11 am until 5 pm.

We invite you to come and experience Schell’s Brewing Company’s past in the greatly expanded Museum of Brewing. Our beautiful new gift shop has tripled in size, with more room for all of the great items Schell’s, along with the Grain Belt line, has to offer. The new Rathskeller or Tap Room, designed with its awesome curved ceilings and wonderful “Old World feel” will also be opened for limited samplings. Free tours will be offered throughout the day. They will be more extensive than we usually have, and will be showing various parts of the brewery that are not normally open to the public .

During the day, music will be performed by local musicians, playing intermittently in the Garden for visitor’s enjoyment.

We so look forward to “showing off” our beautiful new building–and invite you to come and enjoy New Ulm “Gemutlichkeit” (hospitality and friendship) with the beautiful Schell’s Park, Gardens and new Hospitality Complex as the setting!

We hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

AUGUST SCHELL BREWING COMPANY
