Surly Commercial on MNSpeak.com

The fan-submitted Surly commercial was written up on MNSpeak.com the other day.

Not the kindest words ever, but who cares? I enjoyed it for what it was and give Trav credit for his work.

You can read the comments for yourself… here’s just one:

the commercial is crap, but in a good crap kinda way.

Lake Superior Brewing Oktoberfest

That time of year is upon us again. The three weeks in between summer and winter that we here in Minnesota call fall. With the change in seasons comes a special celebration for the heart and soul called Oktoberfest. Lake Superior Brewing will be hosting an Oktoberfest Saturday October 13 from 3-10 with plenty of Oktoberfest beer as well as the other regular LSB offerings. Located in a tent at the corner parking lot of 27th Ave W and Superior St. we will have traditional German offerings such as soft pretzels and mustard, Oktoberfest beer marinated bratwurst, German potato salad, as well as a bonfire, door prizes, live music, and games. Prost!

Wanna’ see the new Surly Darkness poster?

Adam Turman has it up on his site

Who says great poster art has to be limited to rock’n’roll?

Oh yeah, and some Surly news, straight from the tap…

A few things are going on this month. We’ll hit them chronologically,
because it’s easier than doing it alphabetically.

October 10th – All this week at Buster’s on 28th, Furious is only $3 a pint.
On Wednesday at 7:00, Buster’s will tap a Firkin of Furious. That’s right,
tea-bagged Furious at Buster’s tomorrow night.

October 11-13 – GABF. Omar and Becca are hanging out at the Great American
Beer Festival in Denver. We are bringing 50 gallons of beer. There will be
over 40,000 thirsty beer drinkers. Lets see… that’s 0.16 ounces of Surly per
attendee. I’m looking forward to seeing how that works

October 15th – Coffee Bender at The Triple Rock. Sarah Lawson (surly
employee #3) will be playing with her band, God Came From Space. In
addition, Six Six Crush and Carbellion will be playing. Best news  – No
Cover! Music starts @ 9:00.

October 30th – Darkness release at the Blue Nile. Around 7:00, Al and the
gang will tap this year’s Darkness. Look for Darkness at other Surly bars
starting Halloween eve.
Growlers of Darkness will be sold at some point this fall/winter. We will
let folks know about the plans.

October 31st – Coffee Bender at Joe’s Garage. A double feature on the roof
of locally made Halloween movies & Costume Contest. $5 cover goes to
Make-A-Wish Foundation.

November 3rd – Brewery tour – tour times @ 12:30 and 1:30.

That is the news for now!

See you drinking,
Omar

An update from Flat Earth Brewing Company

Here’s an update from our friends across the river (well… technically some of us live on that side of the river, but whatever…) at Flat Earth Brewing Company.

Greetings fellow Flat Earther’s,
Zed said he’s not hosting an intergalactic kegger. But, we are! Join us at Stub and Herb’s, Minneapolis on Halloween night for the inaugural Flat Earth Intergalactic Kegger! Music! Beer! Prizes! Check our website for the scary details coming soon!
Due to the outrageously positive response and feedback we decided to brew Cygnus X-1 year round which will shore up our regularly scheduled line-up of brews. Look for more of Cygnus X-1 sometime in November along with our other brews (Flat Earth Belgian Pale, Element 115 and Angry Planet) to be in bottles coming soon.

The next tour of the brewery will be Saturday October 20th at 5 p.m.

We’ve got another busy month of special appearances in addition to our Intergalactic kegger at Stub & Herb’s. On the 13th we will be at Sally’s Saloon and Eatery, Minneapolis for Midwestfest. A fundraiser held by the Twin Cities chapter of the Rotaract Club dedicated to community service here and around the world. Our beer will be on tap and we will have some swag and other cool stuff on silent auction. Come down for some great beer for an awesome cause. You can even bid on “brewer for a day” with Jeff the brewer. See tcrotaract.org for more event information.
Starting on the 15th, Flat Earth will be the beer of the week at Buster’s on 28th, one of South Minneapolis’ newest neighborhood hangs. Head down to Buster’s and get special pricing on Angry Planet.
Cathie and I will be heading to Denver October 11 for the Great American Beer Festival, the largest beer festival in the Nation. We are very excited to go and taste great beers from around the country and go head to head with other breweries and brewpubs in tasting competition. Wish us luck! If you are heading out stop by our booth and say “Hi!”

Cheers!

Mark your calendars for Darkness at the Blue Nile

Here’s the official word from Al at the Blue Nile… Surly Darkness release party on October 30th…

Yes, it’s still over 3 weeks away, but set your calendar to Tuesday the 30th for the official release party at the Blue Nile. Come one, come all, but don’t drink it all in one night! I may have some other special things going on, so I’ll post this event once that’s decided.
Let’s say 7pm.

There’s an excellent poster for Darkness by Adam Turman, who did that last Surly “thank you” poster. I’ll put up a link once I see it on either Surly’s or Adam’s website. He did a great job, even without any cleavage…
