New Belgium Heritage Takeover!

For the price of a debt they’ll never be able to erase (the juice is running!), we’re allowing New Belgium Brewery to take over our store this week. The truth is that we’ll do all the work and they’ll get all the credit, but you’ll get to reap the benefits.

Bomber of the Week
For our BOTW, we’ll have their Abbey Grand Cru, a big, beautiful version of their Abbey Ale at 20% off.  Rich and bottle conditioned, this a great beer to cellar.

Thursday Tasting
For our tasting on Thursday the 17^th, we will have Derek (aka: “Theo” aka: the sexiest Beer Ranger in whatever room he is in) here to pour samples of some of their brews from 5-7PM.

Brewery of the Month
There’s a theme developing … our featured brewery this month is … stay with me here … New Belgium.  For the month of May we’ll have their 4-packs and 6-packs on sale for $7.49 and their 12 packs (can and bottle) on sale for $12.99.

Once again Fitty’s First Friday is upon us at Thomas Liquor.  The legendary Bell’s Brewing Co. is the featured brewery for May.  Brewery rep. Jason Gillum will be tasting out the entire Bell’s line-up along with a few cellared gems.

Joshua Bernstein, author of Brewed Awakening, will be making a couple of stops in Minnesota this week for a couple of events. Joshua interviewed me a few years ago for a piece on up and coming craft beer cities for Imbibe magazine and edited appropriately so I didn’t sound stupid, so he must be a good guy, right? In any case, Brewed Awakening is his take on the craft beer revolution and features several Minnesota breweries. (See below).

I’ll be holding court at the Four Firkins, which is quite possibly Minnesota’s best beer store. Expect plenty of free beer  goodies to glug. And me, drinking and blabbing.

Come down to the Minneapolis area’s superb Midwest Supplies, the nation’s preeminent homebrew-supply shop. It’s customer appreciation day, and I’ll be on hand to sign books and drop some beer-y science. Expect plenty of food fresh from the grill, homemade sodas and plenty more beer-based goodness.

So what will these bills allow? One will allow liquor stores to sell store-branded apparel. The other will allow liquor stores to charge a fee for tasting/education events in order to pay folks like myself big bucks to sample beer with their patrons special guest speakers.

Also included in the omnibus liquor bill are provisions to allow for beer sales at the U of M’s TCF Bank Stadium (and if I follow correctly, sales can’t be limited solely to the suites) as well as a bill allowing breweries that aren’t distributed in Minnesota to sample beer at one festival a year.

This week’s Thursday Tasting at Heritage features Lucan’s Brau Brothers. They’ll be sampling some year-round beers as well as their new Rye Wyne Ale, a rye barleywine aged in Templeton Rye Whiskey barrels. It’s tasty. Check it out.

For this week’s Thursday Tasting on the 26^th from 5-7PM, we’re going local with Brau Brothers. In addition to a couple of their year-round offerings, we’ll have samples of their newest big bottle release, Rye Wyne Ale, a big rye ale aged in Templeton Rye Whiskey barrels from Iowa. We love this unique beer, so come by and tell us what you think.

This week Thomas Liquor welcomes back LiftBridge Brewing Co. for Fitty’s First Friday.  Owner Dan Schwarz and brewer Adam Weiss will be tasting out the newly-returned six pack lineup along with some of the limited releases.  This should be one of the best FFFs to date.

Head over to Heritage this Thursday (March 29th) for a tasting of Duvel, Leifmans beer and perhaps some other goodies. 5-7pm.
