Cypress Lagering Tank Restoration at August Schell

Schell’sThis is interesting… enough to steal me away from vacation for a few minutes… Jace down at sent me a note to let me know that they’re in the process of restoring two of their original 1936 cypress lagering tanks. They’re hoping that by next year they’ll have them functional and able to use as part of their 150th Anniversary Draft Series. Check out their website for photos and further information.

That is darn cool! I hope all goes as planned and we’re able to taste something from them.

They look a lot like Rodenbach barrels to me. Now if we can convince them to inoculate just ONE of the barrels with a little brettanomyces…

I imagine there’s something funky in there already :)

IIRC, I recall from a Guild tour that these had sat unused since the 70s or so…

Good point! Maybe just fill it with wort and see what happens.

Ooh I know…How about a cyprus aged Schmaltz Alt?
