I read as far as here:

"I just can't believe we've traded in our patrimony of quiet exceptionalism and good government for this. It's finally been answered: What's worse than a cold Omaha? A cold Los Angeles."

Then I said, screw it, I can't read this crap.

boy, if you take out her personal references half the time, that column would run about a paragraph and a half...she's done some real silly writing just to indulge her various writer's itches, or is it to fill space?....love how she says growlers are new to Minnesota....if 4 years ago is new....and "now" you can get Surly in growlers...if "now" is a year ago...

once, she wrote an article about the new La Belle Vie before it opened, to tell us all about how great it was going to be, how awesome their wine list will be...if if you're a Joe Luchpail type, they may have some Pilsner Urquell for you, and even give you a glass...

...actually, I wrote the above from memory, paraphrasing, and now that I've found the article, it's even worse, ...see for yourself, paragraph six, second line....it makes me gag...

I don't know, the author mocks 'coastal talking heads' for trivializing the bridge disaster by referencing a baseball game, but fails to see that penning an article about beer where said disaster is injected for no discernable reason other than to puerily draw a 'we all needed a drink' analogy. (save the buying local beer will somehow spare us further infrastructure disasters line) what is wrong with simply penning an article about surly? edit out the writer's bedtime journal entries, and it's a fine bit of journalism.

True. I think Dara perhaps is more of a wine geek than a beer geek.

Yup. The only line I disagreed with was the one mentioning Surly as the newest up-and-coming brewery in MN. Let us not forget Flat Earth, who is also pumping out some great beer.
