I was thinking the same thing. Schell gets a way with it for a few of their beers, but they have been around for 150 years so that helps. Surly IPA wouldnt be near as fun to order or easy to remember.

Not a bad interview. There are a lot of things I could comment on in regards to running a business and marketing but I'll just make just this one unless asked to make more.

I'm sure it's too late now but in the future, give the beer a real name. People like cool names for their beer (and any product in general, from cars to electronics). Pale Ale is so boring. With a good name you may find that people that would usually drink macros may be intrigued to try it just based on the name. This could mean they just try it once and never again (but at least they tried it and in the end it's still a sale) or they could love it and continue buying it. We see it in every product we buy. You remember cool names. What if Dark Lord was just Three Floyd's Russian Imperial Stout? Or the iPod was just Apple MP3 Player. Kinda lame huh? The general beer consumer goes to the bar and says, "I want a Furious." Simple to remember what you liked. Or they go and say, "I want that Pale Ale." Which one? Sierra Nevada, Flat Earth, Bell's, etc. Naming is HUGE in marketing.
